Obituary for Norman Sigurdson

Norman Sigurdson
Norman Christian Sigurdson of Baldur MB, passed away at the Baldur Personal Care Home on Wednesday February 21, 2018, three days short of his 89th birthday.

Norman leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife Eila (nee Kinnunen) of 64 years, 3 children Sherry (Rob) Ramage of Baldur, Douglas (Heidi) of Baldur and Wanda (Art) Richmond of Glenboro. Also, 9 grandchildren Grayson Richmond (Jolene), Bren (Tasha) Richmond, Cam Richmond (Natasha), Nathan (Aimee) Ramage, Lanny (Tanny) Ramage, Keila Sigurdson (Frank), Yaana Sigurdson (Jeremy) Kyra (Dustin) & Matt (Kris), as well as 8 great grandchildren Taryn, Eila, Maddox, Nash, Booker, JR, Austyn & Jett.
Dad also leaves to mourn 2 siblings, brother Frank Sigurdson of Sylvan Lake Alberta and Wilma Miller of Strathmore Alberta, as well as numerous nephews, nieces and friends.

Dad was born to Chris and Mae Sigurdson on February 24, 1929 on the farm near Markerville Alberta. His early school days were spent at Centreville and later he attended Red Deer High School. He married Eila Kinnunen from Sylvan Lake Alberta on August 27, 1953. At this time, Dad worked on the oil rigs and they lived in several places in Alberta and North West Territories. When they started a family of their own, it was time to find a permanent home. They moved to Eila's fathers farm at Sylvan Lake and also rented Norman's uncle Siggi's land. In 1961, Norman, Eila and family moved to Baldur to take over the farm from aging Uncle Joe. The farm has remained in the Sigurdson family for 137 years. Mom and Dad moved to the town of Baldur in 2006.

Dad has captured many memorable events with his video camera for many years taping anything from dances to funerals. Mom and Dad danced and danced. Whenever there was a dance, no matter where, they were there. In June 2017, Dad took residence at the Personal Care Home in Baldur.

Norman was predeceased by his parents Chris and Mae Sigurdson, sister Doris Eliuk, brother Elmer, sisters-in-law Ellen Sigurdson, Gertie Peltola, brothers-in-law Eino Peltola, as well as Bill and Wayne Kinnunen.

A Celebration of Norman's life will be held on Monday February 26, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the Baldur Memorial Hall. Interment will take place in the Grund Cemetery. Friends that so desire, memorial donations can be made in Norman's memory to the Baldur Volunteer Enrichment Group, c/o Baldur Manor, Box 128 Baldur MB or to the Grund Cemetery Memorial Fund, c/o R.M. of Argyle, Box 40, Baldur MB R0K 0B0.
