Obituary for Ellen Doreen Bjornson (Steele)
On Thursday January 25, 2018 a beautiful heart stopped beating and heaven gained another angel. Ellen Doreen Bjornson passed away peacefully at the Glenboro Health Centre at the age of 88 years.
Left to cherish her memory are her 4 children - Steve (Vera) Bjornson, Brenda Tosh, John (Lorene) Bjornson, and Corinne Torgerson as well as 13 grandchildren – Loren (Sheldon) Gurr, Corey (Larissa) Bjornson, Karyn Bjornson, Daryl (Yvonne) Bjornson, Glen (Lisa) Tosh, Mike (Melva) Tosh, Angie (Robert) Gudnason, Tyler (Pam) Bjornson, Cody Torgerson, Carina (Cam)Torgerson, Cache (Diana) Torgerson, Chelci Torgerson and grandson-in-law Marshall Forrest along with 19 great grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn her sisters Jean Newton and Lorna Wallis.
Doreen was predeceased by her husband Gudmundur Halldor (Mundie) Bjornson, parents John and Ellen Steele, brother Don Steele and his wife Marie, brothers-in-law Mundie Goodmanson, Wayne Newton and Roy Wallis, son-in-law John Tosh and granddaughter Brooke Forrest.
Doreen was born to John and Ellen Steele on April 14, 1929 and raised on the family farm 3 miles west of Glenboro. She attended Hawkins School and completed her education at Glenboro High School. She married Mundie Bjornson on May 26, 1947 and lived on the farm 1½ miles south-west of Glenboro where they raised their four children. She loved baking, gardening, curling, bingo, knitting, ceramics, playing cards and games with family and friends. All the children and grandchildren were gift recipients of her many crafts. Amma was always available to babysit her grandchildren. Doreen was an awesome painter and she was always anxious to help out her children when painting was being done at their homes. Doreen was a member of the Glenboro Curling Club, the Glenboro Lutheran Church and Lutheran Ladies Aid.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 2, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the Willmor Chapel, Glenboro, MB with Pastor Laurel Seyfert officiating. Interment will take place prior to the service in the Glenboro Cemetery. Following the service a reception will be held at Glenboro United Church CE Building.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Doreen's memory to Glenboro and Area Foundation (Health Designation) or charity of your choice.
