Obituary for Harold (Harley) Parsonage

Harold (Harley) Parsonage
Accidentally on Friday December 15, 2017, Harold Murray (Harley) Parsonage, passed away at the age of 60 years.

Harley leaves to mourn his loving family, wife Jody (nee Stevens), children Jennie (Patrick) of Cypress River, Dory (Adria) of Edmonton AB, Riley (Rachelle) of Baldur, Sally (Jeff) of Cypress River and his six grandchildren Lilith, Cohen, Clark, Naomi, Harley & Ronan. He is also survived by his mother Dorothy Parsonage of Baldur, sisters Cherie (Andy) Melvin of Mather, Julie (Mel) Wickens of Pilot Mound, Minnie (Robert) Guilford of Clearwater, Fran (Dan) DeRuyck of Treherne, brother Jeff (Kelly-Ann) of Baldur, brother-in-law Morris DeRuyck of Mariapolis, father & mother-in-law Fred & Fern Stevens of Glenboro, brothers-in-law Randy Stevens of Edmonton, Darry (Cher) of Winnipeg, as well as numerous extended family & friends. Harold was predeceased by his father Harry Parsonage & sisters Sandy DeRuyck & Lily-Anne Gompf.

Harold loved flying and farming! He obtained a diploma in agriculture from the University of Manitoba in 1976. He received his private pilot’s license in 1978 and passed his commercial rating in 1981. After completing carpentry at Red River College in 1982, he built a couple of homes in the area, as well as his own. A self taught welder and mechanic, Harley’s Repair opened for business in the 80s. An interest in politics led to Harold running in the provincial election of 1988 for the COR party (forerunner party of Reform). He taught computer farm accounting software courses through the Assiniboine Community College in the early 1990’s. A steward of the land, he farmed his entire life on the home farm - first with his Dad, then with his brother, and for the past 10 years, with his children. In 2008, he started crop dusting as a “Flying Farmer” and established Air Greenway Ltd.

Harold married Jody Stevens in 1981 and they started their family in 1983. A patient father, Harold took pride in raising four amazing children, and later welcoming their wonderful spouses and six precious grandchildren. As the children began taking over the farm operations, Harold was gradually stepping back from the farm to spend more time with the grandchildren and pursue his passion for flying. While working towards his flight instructor rating, he continued to give rides at any opportunity. In the rare times he wasn’t flying, farming or entertaining grandkids, Harold enjoyed taking Jody dancing and eating all variations of chocolate and ice cream.

Harold was an avid reader, a master mechanic, and a forward thinker. He enjoyed “teaching” anyone who was interested or would listen! His strong sense of family, matter of fact demeanor and hard work ethic live on in his children. Young at heart, Harold’s huge smile and friendly, engaging personality left a positive impression on everyone he met.

A Celebration of Harold's life will be held on Thursday December 21, 2017 at 11:00 am in the Baldur Memorial Hall with Sharon Hamilton officiating. Reception to follow.

Flowers are gratefully declined. Friends so desire, memorial donations can be made in Harley's memory to the R.M. of Argyle, (Baldur & Area Endowment Fund), c/o the Harold Parsonage Aviation Scholarship Fund, Box 40, Baldur MB R0K 0B0.
